A "Productive " Day in the Zackey Home

So ones "productivity" drastically changes when one has kids right? Well today was a fine example for me of a very "productive" day around here.
Here is an itemized list of what we did to make it so:
1. Ate a seemingly endless breakfast toddler style to keep us going through our morning play.
Q reading his catalog, eating some cereal,
oh and cutting up a smartie
to share with me from a little pack he so sneakily found this morn

2. Took out all the cars and raced them across the living room.
3. Made a couch fort to hide in, bring all stuffed animals to, and read books by flashlight in.
4. Got dressed, eventually.
5. Ran out to Goodwill where we scored some lincoln logs, yay!
That lion if off to get liquored up before he gets
busted by the GI Joe sherrif:

6. Walked over in the rain to pick up a little snack at QFC (actually this was a score too as they have those Quaker rice cake snacks on sale if you buy 10, they're only 50 cents each)!
7. Had a yummy lunch back home.
8. Napped, not all simultaneously, but that's ok.
9. Made tunnels with blocks for race cars to zoom through, lincoln log buildings,
and a zoo for the little animals.
10. Had a nummy dinner of lentil sausage stew.
11. Had a lovely time singing "The Rainbow Connection" with Papa.
And now I'm going to do a little knitting now that everyone else is off in bed!
Hurrah for "productivity"!

My Little Storytellers

Quin has quite a knack for telling stories these days and as I sit here writing, Hazel herself can't seem to get enough of her own chatter. She is doing lots of verbalizing this week, and some really cute raspberry bubble blowing burbling. So here is a story Quin told me the other morning:
"I was a big boy in my classroom and I have a swimming grasshopper. It hopped 5, 8 and I try and catch it, and it run away, and then I catch it in a net!"
Ooh, won't it be fun when he can illustrate his stories!
And gosh do I ever wish I had a voice recorder of some kind in the car these days, Q says the funniest things often when we are on our way somewhere.
Last week it was, "Someone cut off my beard!" and then a whole lot of chatter about his beard and such, egads!
Here's are my little characters:
"Mama, Mama, I'm a book!"
"Mama, read me!"

Facebookin' It

Yikes, in case I wasn't busy enough with two small children, a home to keep up, a determination to do the Danskin next summer, food to cook, laundry (oh the horror!) to attempt to keep up with, and a blog to write, I've decided to obsess over FACEBOOK! So, if I'm not keeping up here, it's all Facebook's fault. It's SO addicting and such a waste of time I know, but I don't watch TV, so it's all good, right? Anyway, if you haven't tried it yet, you should...;)

Handmade for Hazel

I thought up this post title back in August and still have yet to photo and post all the items that have been made just for Hazel, but for now, here is the layette set my Aunt Barbara made for Hazel:
We were so impressed by this set cause Barbara is just learning to knit and she did such an incredible job with it. And the little sweater is complete with buttons from my Great Grandmother Emily's buttons, ahhh..

Smokin'

Todd picked up some salmon from a co-worker on Friday so we headed over to the island to smoke it in the cute little smoke house he and Danpa made a few years back:So, the fish smoked away...
...while we were busy lazing (Mama), taking a walk to the beach (Danpa and Quinnie), then napping (Quinnie, Todd, and Hazel), picking carrots and greens:
and then staying up WAY past bedtime (all of us, except Hazel). So by the time the salmon was cooked and we were on our way back home this morning we were all a little tired out. But all in all it was a productive smokin' time.
Then, to top it off I got to head over to my friend Rebecca sister's lovely home (and awesome kitchen) and cook up a heap of pasta sauce. We had a great time, and I brought home some tasty sauce for dinner!
All in all, it was a fun fall weekend!
