"Apparently" + "Jealous"
I love recognizing the words that the kids use that seem out of the norm. Quin regularly uses "apparently" in discussions usually tagging it on the end of a sentence. Saying something like, "Alex is coming over, apparently." He even named a recent painting, "China Apparently".
Apparently I have a cute blondy who likes to climb and apparently I have no idea where he gets his vocabulary from...
Hazel on the other hand has really gotten the concept of "jealous", and when were out trick or treating she used the word perfectly (as she often does). We were at a house with some neat festive candy lights and walking away she said, "I'm jealous!" She's jealous of Quin sometimes, of items she wants, and even strangers apparently. Fortunately, she's also recently become even more in love with singing, so perhaps I need to come up with a "Don't be too jealous Hazel" jingle so we learn the feeling is ok, but so it appreciating what you have. You know something like,
(to the tune of twinkle little star, which fyi you can use for a song on pretty much anything as I've found out with FH this fall)
"Oh don't be jealous little Hazel.
Don't be an overly jealous girl.
Please be happy with what you've got,
You love to sing and that's a lot.
Don't be jealous little Hazel,
Please be happy with what you've got!"
Just a thought.
Though as I've found out since putting her in those braids last week, I better not call her "little Hazel" cause she'd just stop me and insist I call her "Pippi" instead...
Oh good grief I'm dorky, you come by is honestly kiddos, sorry...
*Oh and I must add a postscript to add that Q is also into "stupendous" and H "ridiculous" both of which I find pretty adorable.

Museum of Flight at Night
The kids and I went down to first Thursday at the Museum of Fight last night and had a great time. Q has been wanting to go back ever since he and Papa went early in the summer and this was a great chance to appease him since Papa was off on a rare night out. So they ran all around the place,
and had generally a great time in the space. They both liked getting in the cockpits of the display planes, and pushing buttons etc.
They also had a great time in the kids flight zone playing around with the planes and the fun exhibit including the hang gliding simulator. Then we had our dinner at the cafe and still had time to explore (the museum is open late on first Thursdays). So, Q showed me where the WW1 and WW2 planes were,
They played another flight simulator game, and H showed she's not quite ready for flight school:
Before we left we stopped at the theater to watch an educational movie on the life of an amazing woman named Vi Cowden. I wasn't surprised H was not so interested, but Q certainly was (later asking thoughtful questions etc.). Then with a quick stop at the store to buy an obligatory small toy plane, we were off heading to home for a convenient putting at least one kid right to sleep drive home, so Mama's job was easier. It was a fun night out for all of us!

Picture Day
Q had picture day at school. I thought I better get at least one shot at home, just in case he's making a goofy face in the school one,
He's got that little scratch on his face from running into a tree at FH this week. So, might have to just take him into JCPenny's or something at some point!
Oh and "Pippi" had to be photographed again as well,

A Little Time at the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo
Cause Q and H haven't let it slip that they really wanted to go on a zoo trip, and it was so utterly gorgeous out again today, we headed down this afternoon. Besides lots of "We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo..." singing, there was heaps of happy running about,
jaguar pacing/mimicking,
family farm play and animal viewing,
and for some reason, lots of bird viewing as we happened to be interested in the flamingos, penguins, tropical birds, African water fowl, and of course the wandering peacocks today.
Pippi Hazelstocking
H got real braids that lasted all day today. After admiring herself in the mirror, she agreed she was "Pippi" and she called herself that all day.
(that tiny tuft of hair right in the middle, which has actually been growing out for quite awhile, is the unsolved mystery of what I'm pretty sure was a "haircut" from one of the kids)
Pippi making a goofy face
H really got into her role today, often correcting me when I called her Hazel, "No, I'm Pippi!"
And no, I haven't read Pippi Longstocking
to my kids (though we tried with Q, but it was a little scary with the robbers and all), but they have seen old and seriously low budget versions
of Pippi Longstocking
for our movie nights. So, H knows all about Pippi and her goofy ways, and her horse, Alfonso. Since H loves horses this was the connection she was making today, that and running around really fast. And Q even played along being Tommy.
