How To: Do the Zoo in the Rain

Step 2: Wear the right gear, don't worry about being uber dorky looking in your rain pants along with your kids, you'll all be happier and cozier that way.

Step 3: Pick a section to visit so you're not pushing it by wandering too far from the car.

Step 4: Stop and listen. There are wonderful stories and lessons to learn from the many keepers at the zoo, from facts on the brand new cranes from Russia to the childhood stories of a Maasai interpreter who used to tease hippos as a boy and run wildly away from their pursuits.

Step 5: Jump in the puddles with the kids.
